Sarah Campbell is an assistant professor at Arkansas State University Campus Querétaro where she teaches courses in theatre and oral communication. She holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama with a minor in Folklore and a certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Indiana University. She received her B.A. in Theatre from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky and her M.A. in Theatre with an emphasis in Directing from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
In 2017, Sarah received the American Society for Theatre Research´s Helen Krich Chinoy Dissertation Fellowship and IU College of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Research Fellowship. Her research interests include Contemporary Yucatec Maya language theatre, the intersections of theatre and folklore, touristic performance, and the theatricality of space and place. Her dissertation is titled "Identity in Performance in Contemporary Yucatec Maya Theatre."
As a theatre practitioner, Sarah has worked as an actor, director, in publicity and marketing, and as a dramaturg. Sarah served as the company dramaturg for three years at Indiana University’s professional summer theatre, Indiana University Summer Theatre. In her free time, Sarah enjoys practicing circus arts including aerial fabrics, aerial hoop, and pole.
She served as President and conference co-chair for Indiana University´s Association for Research in Theatre (ART@IU) from 2015-2016 and was Secretary of the Graduate Student Caucus, the graduate student organization of the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) from 2014-2015. Sarah is from Louisville, Kentucky.
